Possible causes
Worn friction surfaces
The clutch transmits torque through friction. When it wears, it may no longer carry the full load. Mileage alone does not determine its condition: how the car is used and how it actually behaves matter.
Oil contamination or overheating
Dirty friction surfaces and overheating can reduce the clutch's ability to transmit force. The cause of the damage needs to be found. Replacing the disc without removing the source of the problem may not give a lasting result.
Release mechanism
The problem is not always limited to the disc. A faulty release mechanism can prevent full engagement. The list of parts needed is set after the inspection, taking into account the car's design.
What to tell the mechanic
- In what normal conditions the revs rise without matching acceleration: pulling away, on a hill or with passengers.
- Whether there has been a smell of overheating and whether the pedal feels different from normal.
- Whether the clutch was replaced recently, whether the gearbox was worked on and when the symptoms began.
What you can do
Do not test the clutch with hard acceleration or by pulling away in a high gear: this adds heat and strain. If the smell is strong, traction drops suddenly or you can no longer drive safely, stop and arrange transport for the car.
Where the check starts
The mechanic finds the exact cause during the inspection.
Frequently asked questions
Should I buy a clutch kit straight away?
First confirm the problem and which parts fit. The model, engine and gearbox all matter. 'The revs go up' does not determine the repair by itself and does not mean every nearby part must be replaced.
Will a gearbox oil change help?
An oil change is not a universal fix for a slipping clutch. It is a separate job recommended for other reasons. Titan replaces clutches. Before your visit to Petricani 17/3, call and describe the symptoms to discuss the check and next steps.
